It won the Special Jury Award for Best Performance at the ARIZONA Intl Film Festival, opening theatrically to excellent reviews in the NEW YORK TIMES, HUFFINGTON POST, NEW YORK OBSERVER and LA TIMES, which sited it as one of four independent films “most overlooked for an Oscar.”

A craft class for anyone who wants a way to dive in and produce energized writing, an effective way to free yourself from static and second-guessing and get words down on a page. By the end of this workshop you’ll have a short prose piece on its way to finished that gleams with your voice. 

Jana Martin is a fiction and nonfiction writer, editor and teacher.  Her work includes RUSSIAN LOVER, SMOKE GETS IN YOUR EYES, articles and stories in The New York Times, Cosmopolitan, Glimmer Train, The Weeklings.

Writing Contemporary Satire, meeting for three sessions. We will work under the headlines to reflect on contemporary policies (and whatever else comes our way).

Joan Reinmuth is a retired nurse with a good track record for persuasion. Classically trained on the streets of New York City where comedy lives. Experience with festivals, cabaret, NYC comedy club scene, house concerts and writing workshops.

These sessions will be held at Inquiring Minds Bookstore.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Roshni Samlal is a New York–based tabla player who hails from the West Indies, where she was initiated into the ancient tradition of Indian classical music by her vocalist father. She has continued her tutelage in the Benares style of tabla playing under Shri Tapan Modak and is currently a student of Pt. Anindo Chatterjee. While her passion is Indian classical tabla, she has played folk, jazz, and other genres. Samlal has performed at notable local venues such as Pianos, The Knitting Factory, The Bitter End, The Shrine, and Tea Lounge.

Camila Celin began playing guitar when she was nine years old. For the last five years she has played the Indian sarod, studying in Kolkata with Sougata Roy Choudhury. She also studies with sitar maestro Pandit Krishna Bhatt in New York.


This concert is a collaboration between Shout Out Saugerties and Isabel Soffer/Live Sounds and Harmonyom.org

Indian food from Bluestone Tavern & Tandoori Grill will be available for purchase before de concert, starting at 6pm.

HISTORY SCAVENGER HUNT with The History Whisperers

Hidden within plain sight in the village of Saugerties are many artifacts that tell a story about the rich history of this historic town. Pictures of the markers and a map can be found in a brochure that can be picked up the Exchange Hotel porch.  (Partition and Main Streets). Find them and mark them on the map and bring them back to the History Whisperers on the Exchange porch. If you identify all of them correctly, you can claim a magnificent prize!!

Hunt will begin at the front patio of the Hotel Exchange.

ON LOCATION SHOOTING:  PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP with MICHAEL NELSON

Participants will need to bring a Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera.  Basic knowledge of exposure control would be helpful.  We will gather at my studio at 22 John Street.

Michael Nelson is a professional photographer, and now video producer.  He has been photographing for magazines, newspapers, institutions and non-profit groups for 45 years.  A graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology, he has taught at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Storm King Art Center, Museum of the Hudson Highlands, Boston Adult Continuing Education, and in his studio in Saugerties, NY.  Born in Key West, 90 miles from Cuba, he recently authored a photography book on "Cuba Today" published by Ediciones del Mayab.  He just finished a documentary "Why Can't We Serve" on wounded soldiers who were prevented from continuing service in the military.

This exhibit brings together skilled furniture makers with ceramicists, sculptors, and shops that specialize in furnishings and décor.

Take a stroll through sample rooms furnished by Michael Brontoli, Gus Pedersen and Robert Sherman, and decorated by owners of Light House, Bosco’s Mercantile and Dancing Tulip. Admire special crafts people, and artists who can transform where you live.
