About Little Theatre of Wonder /Books Alive

Little Theater of Wonder (LTW) produces annual professional, touring performances during the summer months at little or no cost to area summer camps, public and private schools, and other venues.  Now in its fourth year, the theater continues to reach to new audiences.  Our productions use minimalist staging, transportable sets and actors, writers and directors who have the creativity and experience to adapt to a variety of non-traditional performance spaces. In its first three years, LTW has worked with acclaimed writers Darrah Cloud, Cheri Magid, and Katie Cokinos. LTW productions are recognized locally for persuasive acting, and inventive directing, and scenic elements.

After LTW’s first year, and In further testament to LTW, ShoutOut was invited to create art programming for YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County. We created an affiliated  program, Books Alive; a YA reading series with professional actors from LTW that runs in the spring. Books Alive has performed abridged versions of Charlotte’s Web, The Tale of Despereux, Harbor Me, and other classic books  to audiences in public and private schools in Saugerties, Kingston, Accord, Shokan and Woodstock.

…”Books Alive is a unique and inspiring initiative where talented actors bring beloved children's books to life through live performances. By transforming the written word into engaging theatrical experiences, they spark imagination and foster a love for reading in young audiences. This program aligns perfectly with our mission at the YMCA to nurture the potential of every child and teen…”

-Heidi Kirschner, Executive Director of the Kingston YMCA
