Krista Speroni will teach a drumming workshop.
Krista has a BS in Brain and Cognitive Science from MIT but transitioned to music after leaving college. She is a singer, activist and teacher. Her teaching experiences range from Hawaii's public schools, to the Mosaic Program in southern Vermont, the Appalachian Institute for Creative Learning, and to becoming a “breakout session” leader at the Boston’s Children Choir. She currently teaches in Kingston, and around the Hudson Valley.
One of her main instruments is Sabar, a style of traditional Senegalese percussion. She studied under master drummer, Lamine Touré and Patricia Tang, ethnomusicologist., has traveled to Senegal three times to study sabar in it’s indigenous context with Griot families. In 2020, Krista visited the Dagara Music Center in Accra, Ghana for the first time to study Ewe and Dagara tradition with the Woma family to gain a different perspective on West African music and culture.
